Sonny "Bud" Maxwell Perry, Sr. January 15th, 1923 - January 14th, 2014
Zebulon – Sonny “Bud” Maxwell Perry, Sr., was born on January 15, 1923 to the late Minnie Cherry Perry and George Maxwell Perry and passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at the William Dunlap Hospice Center in Raleigh. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Rosa P. Perry, son Timothy R. Perry, sister Margaret P. Henry and brother Ronald Perry. He is survived by his wife Melba Duke Perry, two sons Sonny Maxwell Perry, Jr. of Millersville, MD (June) and Jimmy W. Perry of Raleigh (Becky) and brother Russell “Pete” Perry of Zebulon (Dot.) He is survived by 5 grandchildren Kelly Perry Shoaff of Raleigh, Katherine Perry Barr of Charlottesville, VA, Justin Perry (LOondon, UK, Lance Perry Hong Kong and Zane Perry of Mt. Pleasant, SC and 11 great-grandchildren. Bud is also survived by two stepdaughters Shirley Baker Williams of Lakeland, FL and Kay Baker Leffingwell of Zebulon; 5 step-grandchildren and 14 step-great-grandchildren. He called Zebulon home for his entire life and was lifelong resident of the Hopkins Chapel Community. After retiring from farming, he worked from 1975 to 1985 as a correctional officer with the North Carolina Department of Corrections. Those close to him knew that he was most at home on his tractor or walking his fields. The family would like to give special thanks to Gabriele Amey and his many caregivers and to the staff of Hospice. A celebration of Bud’s life will be held 11 am Friday at Hopkins Chapel Baptist Church. Burial, Gethsemane Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 or to Hopkins Chapel Baptist Church, 4521 Hopkins Church Rd., Zebulon, NC 27597. The family will receive friends Friday at the church beginning at 10 am.
